The Project Report of the South Scotland Timber Logistics Pilot Study has been published and is available on the Scottish Forestry Cluster website www.forestryscotland.com
The report, by UPM Tilhill Project Managers in conjunction with Edinburgh Napier University describes the concept, design and implementation of a suite of software programs that were principally designed to optimise the utilisation of vehicles used for round timber haulage in south Scotland. This software was also developed in order to introduce collaboration across the forest industry and increase the use of e-business systems for real time stock and delivery management.
The South of Scotland Timber Logistics Pilot Study was launched in 2006 with the creation of the not-for profit business entity Logistics in Forestry Transport Ltd (LIFT). Its aim was to reduce the supply chain costs and environmental impacts associated with timber haulage within the Scottish forest industry.
