The Timber Transport Forum supports forestry by ensuring that the timber industries can access forests and market timber in a sustainable way. At the same time we seek to minimise the impact of timber transport on the public road network, on local communities and on the environment.

Ayrshire & South Lanarkshire

The Ayrshire Timber Transport Liaison Group was formed in 1998 and covers East Ayrshire, North Ayrshire, South Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire Council areas. The group meets every six months.

The objectives of the Group are to:

  • discuss local timber transport issues;
  • maintain under review the routes used within Ayrshire for the transport of timber;
  • review the infrastructure implications of future timber supply;
  • secure, through collaboration, best management practice for timber haulage operations.

Agreed Routes Maps

Agreed Routes Maps have been prepared for most of the forested areas of Scotland, as well as for Cumbria, North Yorkshire and North East England. Agreed Routes Maps are also in place in some parts of Wales.
